Everything for a successful start into your studies
The pleasant anticipation may already be great and perhaps before the start of the study, there is a lot to do. TUM Campus Straubing offers a variety of introductory events so that you can get started with your studies without any difficulties.
Preliminary courses
At Campus Straubing, we offer various preliminary courses. In these courses, you review important fundamentals, for example in mathematics or physics. The preliminar courses are available to all students at our campus.
We are offering a Mathematics Precourse for all first-year students to refresh important mathematical concepts from secondary school and prepare you for the Mathematics 1 lecture.
The topics covered in the precourse will not be repeated in detail during the regular lecture, as they are considered fundamental background knowledge. Therefore, we strongly recommend participating if you feel unsure about your current mathematics skills or would like to review the essential concepts before the semester begins.
Contents of the Mathematics Precourse
- Mathematical Logic and Set Theory
Introduction to logical statements, basic proof techniques, sets, set operations, and mathematical notation. - Number Systems
Review of natural numbers, integers, rational numbers, and real numbers, including their properties and relationships. - Equations and Inequalities
Methods for solving linear, quadratic, and other common types of equations and inequalities. - Trigonometric Functions
Review of sine, cosine, and tangent, their geometric interpretation, important identities, and basic applications. - Complex Numbers
Introduction to complex numbers, their algebraic and geometric representations, and basic arithmetic operations.
Schedule
Date:
Monday, 5 October 2026 – Thursday, 8 October 2026
Time:
08:30 - 17:00
Room:
U7a
The precourse consists of theoretical lectures at the blackboard, followed by guided exercise sessions in which you can apply and consolidate the concepts covered.
Please bring suitable writing materials, such as paper and pens or a tablet.
Teaching language: English.
We are offering a Physics Precourse for all first-year students to refresh basic mathematical and physical concepts from school and prepare you for the Physics course.
We recommend participating if you feel unsure about your current skills in physics and mathematics or if you would like to review some essential concepts before the semester begins. The precourse (like the physics course) is taught in English language and may also be helpful to “get into the mood” if you have learned physics and maths in another language.

Introduction to the SI system. Why and how to perform unit checks? - Vectors
Scalar product & mechanical work. Vector product & torque. - Trigonometric Functions & Applications
Sine, cosine & tangent and examples of their use in physics. - Differential & Integral Calculus
Derivative and Antiderivative & their mathematical interpretation. Example in physics: position, velocity, acceleration. - Measurement Uncertainty

Schedule
Date:
Tuesday, 29 September 2026 – Thursday, 1 October 2026
Time:
9:00-11:30 lecture, 12:30-14:30 exercise
Room:
U7a/U7b
Lecturer:
Prof. Kainz & coworkers
The precourse consists of theoretical lectures, where you will fill in the gaps of the course script together with the lecturer, followed by exercise sessions in which you can apply the concepts to exercise problems and ask for guidance.
The course script is provided on moodle for download. Moodle access: <<link will be provided later>>
Guest access with password: precourse2026
Please bring the gap script either printed out or fill it in on your tablet (works well with the software DrawboardPDF, for example). If you urgently need a printout (e.g. due to lack of access to a printer), please notify ingrid.meindl(at)hswt.de by 27.9.2026.
If you have access to TUMonline, please register there for the course until 27.9.2026.
If you do not have access to TUMonline, please register by sending a short email to ingrid.meindl(at)hswt.de.
Please bring suitable writing materials, such as pen & paper or a tablet as well as your calculator (calculator from school is fine).
This preliminary course will take place from October 5 to October 8 at Uferstraße 53, Straubing. Further information will be provided soon.
